What makes this sign successful is the choice of placement. They have placed it at the second floor of the library, at the stairwell. As that is the first object we see as we go from one floor to another, current location becomes pretty obvious and the sign successfully serves a purpose.

Another good spot for it would have been by the elevator on that floor.
